Fear Street
(The 4 images above show 2 feet wearing handknit socks in red and black. The cuffs and toes are in black, which fades in stranded colorwork to red on the center leg and heel. There is a spooky hand on the instep.)
“She reaches from beyond the grave to make good men her wicked slaves. She’ll take your blood. She’ll take your head. She’ll follow you until you’re dead.”
A mossy pattern gradually takes over the leg of the sock, until it begins to fade away and reveal…a hand!
This pattern was originally released as part of Super Sock Scarefest 2021.
This sock is knit from the cuff down, with a boomerang heel, and features a 2-color colorwork motif on leg and foot. There are optional instructions for calf-shaping and a mini-gusset to supplement the short row heel. The colorwork sections are worked in a slightly larger needle than the rest of the sock.
This sock looks best in solid/semi-solid yarns with good contrast.
Both charts and written instructions are provided.
A low-vision version of the pattern is also available. This version is written in 24 point sans serif font (Arial) in all black text. It has no italics. All of the directions are fully written out.

Light fingering or fingering weight yarn in wool, a wool blend, or other fiber with good stretch and memory; avoid fiber that grows when worn or is particularly slinky or drapey. Fiber should be naturally hard-wearing enough for socks (polwarth, BFL), or have some nylon or silk for strength. Avoid single-ply.
